The Premier Field Hockey League (PFHL) launched in 2017 for its inaugural season. The PFHL is looking forward to increasing the number of teams participating and growing this great sport!
The PFHL welcomed on board the Polar Bears Field Hockey Club, Sea to Sky Field Hockey Club, Vancouver Hawks Field Hockey Club and Burnaby Bears Field Hockey Club as the first four Clubs to officially confirm entry in 2018.
The PFHL runs from the weekend after Labour Day in September to mid-November. We use three fields in the Lower Mainland – Crofton House (water based turf), Cariboo Hill Secondary School (field turf) and Mulgrave high school (field turf).
The Premier Field Hockey League (PFHL) was founded in 2017 by Vancouver Hawks FHC, The Polar Bears, Sea to Sky FHC and the Burnaby Bears FHC.
The league’s main object is to offer year round field hockey competition to the athletes of the Vancouver Lower Mainland. The focus is on teaching how to implement both technical as tactical skills.
The different divisions are based on skills rather than based on age. When athletes play tight games each weekend, they will be challenged to play their best and improve with each game.
The PFHL organizes games for the U8-U14 age and skill range.
For the Cypress & Whistler division teams the match scores will be kept up and can be followed at the PFHL website. Every game ends with a ‘shoot out’ to offer an extra opportunity to gain points for the official standings. The winning team of each division will be presented with the PFHL trophy.
For the Seymour & Grouse divisions focus is on learning ‘how to play the game’. The umpires on the field are teachers. They will not only explain the rules of the game, but also give instructions on how to play. With these young athletes we do not keep score and umpires will try to move the game towards a equal or similar competition, so better teams will be challenged and be more accountable for their faults.
PFHL games are played on Saturday’s only. Every participating club provides a field and umpires for their Home games.
Teams are required to wear proper match uniforms (match shirt, skirts/shorts, and socks).
